McLaughlin Coffee Has Gone Retail!

Yes…I know it has been too long, but I am back with another blog entry. I have some exciting news for our local customers in both the Oakland and Lafayette areas. We are now selling our McLaughlin Coffee brand coffees through two new retail outlets. Our main focus has always been the wholesale side of the business, but we are finally branching out. Also, we are definitely feeling a push to <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=McLaughlin-Coffee-Has-Gone-Retail!&id=1109210332>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

Espresso: The Final Installment

In previous blogs, I gave some tips for getting the best possible coffee out of your espresso machine. Once you have your perfect shot of espresso, many other factors come into play when making a great latte, cappuccino, etc. The consistency and creaminess of steamed milk is so important in finishing off a great espresso-style drink.

The fat content of the milk you use is directly correlated <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=Espresso:-The-Final-Installment&id=1102150932>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

AirScapes & Solano Stroll

Hey everyone! I have a quick update about the AirScapes. We now have all six colors available in both sizes, available on our website as well as for pickup here in Emeryville. The response to the AirScapes has been quite remarkable. I am glad that our customers care so much about keeping our product as fresh as possible. It is something we strive to do every single day.

AirScapes: Coffee Freshness & Storage

If you know anything about our company, you know that it is our mission to provide our customers with the freshest, high-quality coffees possible, at an affordable price. People are always asking me about the best way to store their coffee at home, in the office, or in the retail setting. I believe that the absolute best way to store coffee is in an airtight container, at room temperature.
All About Espresso, Part 2: Pulling the Perfect Shot

Now that we have decided on the beans we want to run through our espresso machine, we need to know how to get the best out of those beans. If the actual coffee you run through your espresso machine is the most important factor in making the perfect espresso shot, then the grind size runs a close second. Let me start by saying that many factors will affect which grind number you will need every <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=All-About-Espresso,-Part-2:-Pulling-the-Perfect-Shot&id=1008030313>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

All About Espresso, Part 1: The Beans

It is time to dive into one of the most expansive, complicated and interesting aspects of the coffee industry: espresso. I say complicated because there are so many factors that come into play to make the perfect espresso drink. Let's start by explaining what an espresso is. The term “espresso” simply refers to the type of brew method (either by an espresso machine, a stove-top espresso maker, <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=All-About-Espresso,-Part-1:-The-Beans&id=1007270721>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

Cupkates Anyone?

I want to tell you about the new trend that we have seen here in Emeryville over the past couple months. Mobile food trucks are taking over the city, and I think it is pretty cool. These trucks are not just your traditional “roach coaches” that we have seen for so many years. All you have to do is drive down Hollis Street at lunchtime and look for the huge crowds of people that are gathering <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=Cupkates-Anyone?&id=1005280712>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

PCCA Cupping Competition Overview

The annual PCCA Cupping Competition is always one of my favorite events to attend each year. This year we cupped ten different Guatemalan coffees, and I was very impressed with the overall quality of the coffees.

Before the cupping competition began, Eduardo Ambrocio, Master Cupper for Anacafe (Guatemalan National Coffee Association), presented facts to us about the current state of affairs <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=PCCA-Cupping-Competition-Overview&id=1005201253>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

PCCA: Background And Upcoming Events

For those of you not familiar with the Pacific Coast Coffee Association (PCCA), let me bring you up to speed. The PCCA is an organization, founded in 1932, that strives to encourage growth and prosperity within the coffee industry. The PCCA has many events during the year, and the two events that I usually attend are the Pete McLaughlin Memorial Cupping Competition and the annual PCCA Coffee <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=PCCA:-Background-And-Upcoming-Events&id=1004131219>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

My Coffees Of Choice

Greetings to all our coffee fanatics! Although it may come as a big surprise to some of you, I did not start drinking coffee regularly until 2003 when I started working full-time for the family business. Looking back on my college days, studying for finals would have been much easier if I was powering down the Max’s Blend back then.

One of my first projects when I joined the family business <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=My-Coffees-Of-Choice&id=1003190721>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>

Website Development And A New Organic Blend

I recently had a good meeting with my brother, Mark, about the future of our company website. We are very excited about the ideas that we came up with. A long-term goal is to make the website a resource for our customers and friends to visit for all their coffee needs. Although we are primarily a wholesale coffee distributor, we would like to extend our scope to a broader audience. We want to <a href="http://www.mclaughlincoffee.com/shaun-blog.aspx?sub=Website-Development-And-A-New-Organic-Blend&id=1002250902>Read More &gt;&gt;</a>
