COSTA RICA SANTA MARIA PEABERRY

Our coffee of the month for October is a medium roast peaberry from the CoopeDota cooperative in Santa Maria De Dota, Costa Rica. It has a mild and balanced acidity with a body that starts off medium then becomes more light and effervescent toward the finish. The soft honeycrisp apple acidity is present toward the front of the cup and fades into more sweetness in the middle, with light chocolate wafer cookie notes. The finish is delightfully sweet and juicy with notes of guava nectar. We are excited to share this superb coffee with you!
Roast Color: Medium
Cupping Notes: Honeycrisp Apple, Chocolate Wafer, Guava Nectar
Story: Cooperativa de Caficultores de Dota R.L (CoopeDota), which was established in 1960, is one of the finest cooperatives in Costa Rica. It starts with an unmatched commitment to the environment. CoopeDota has a first of its kind certified carbon-neutral mill, which features hydro-powered energy consumption, water efficient eco-pulpers (also called a demucilager), and mechanical coffee dryers fueled by coffee parchment. Nearly 900 producer-members living throughout the canton of Dota within the province of San Jose, Costa Rica focus their attention on farm management throughout the year and then deliver their cherry to the CoopeDota mill where traceability and quality control are second to none. CoopeDota has an equally intricate model of income diversification with a profitable agriculture supply store and tourism department dedicated to showing off coffee farms to visitors. They also roast their own coffee and operate three cafes and a cupper/barista training center. Their commitment to the environment also extends to the community of Santa Maria de Dota where the cooperative manages trash pickup for the entire town.
Just picked up this coffee on Fri, and made a cafetière (French Press) of it….lovely taste, smooth, nice acidity, business as usual for McLaughlin!! Highly recommend it. Great to read that the Cooperative are doing some brilliant work in the community and for the environment also….
Light and refreshing. Lovely flavor.
