SUMATRA GAYO ARKHAN NATURAL

We are excited to introduce the newest addition to our McLaughlin Reserve line, a juicy naturally-processed coffee from Northern Sumatra. This special release coffee is vibrant and fruity throughout with a medium-light body. The medium acidity, while unusually high for a Sumatra, is much more mild than you would expect from a roast this light, and makes for a fascinating brew to experience. When you open the bag and brew the cup, you cannot help but notice the bold aroma of strawberries, which helps build the excitement for the strawberry flavor of this coffee.
The cup starts with sweet notes of strawberry jam, which persist on your palate throughout the cup. In the middle of the cup, subtle citrus notes of orange zest add a slight bitterness to balance the sweetness. Approaching the finish, there is a wonderful combination of sweet limeade tartness and hard candy sweetness that lingers into the sweet and mildly tart finish.
This unique Sumatran coffee will be available for about a month, so be sure to take advantage of this limited time offering that we expect to be available until mid-June.

Region Details: Tradition runs deep in the province of North Sumatra on the island of Sumatra, renowned for cup profiles and the classic Indonesian style of coffee cultivation and processing. Coffee is cultivated and harvested from farms that average less than 3 acres in size. Producers belong to the Hutasoit tribe and maintain a traditional village lifestyle that includes houses that resemble ships. Seventy percent of the producers are women who rely on coffee income to support their families.
Exporting Details: With Indonesian coffees, half the battle is overcoming logistical challenges like rugged roads and unpredictable torrents of rain. Adena Coffee, an export company, takes on an important role of organizing local warehouses and transportation so farmers can overcome these challenges. Adena Coffee also coordinates the dry-mill process to swiftly bring the coffee to the international market, ensuring greater earnings for producers.
Processing Details: Each producer delivers harvested cherries to the mill in Kenawat where they are carefully sorted and dried slowly over a period of 30 to 40 days.
