Uganda Organic Friends of Mothers Women's Coffee
Our featured coffee for April is a complex and rich medium roast from the Friends of Mothers collective in Uganda. This coffee has a medium-heavy body, tastes a bit darker than its medium color, and is incredibly flavorful. The cup starts off with roasted notes of peanut butter right from the start. Those notes continue and are joined in the middle by rich and decadent notes of chocolate ganache. The chocolate gets muted into the finish and is joined by sweet tropical fruit notes of guava jam. The finish is long, sweet, and complex with roasty peanut butter and sweet guava notes beckoning you to take another sip.
Roast Color: Medium
Cupping Notes: Peanut Butter, Chocolate Ganache, Guava Jam
About the coffee of the month: We feature a new coffee every month. This allows us to explore more of the world of coffee outside of our normal offerings. It is available this month only, while supplies last.
Story: This lot was produced from a women’s collective called Friends of Mothers, which was established in 2015. The group has 500 members with farms in the Mbale District on the slopes of Mount Elgon. During the harvest, each producer meticulously picks ripe cherries, sorts by hand and floats the cherry to remove damaged and less dense coffee. Next the producer uses their own micro-mill to depulp, ferment, wash and dry the coffee before delivering it to the Friends of Mothers warehouse. Friends of Mothers has its own dry mill facility, which features a fully staffed cupping lab to ensure traceability and quality control throughout the post harvest process. Friends of Mothers manages the certification process and also helps train producers on best organic practices, which includes using materials like coffee pulp to make organic fertilizers creating an abundant source of plant nutrition that ensures better yields and quality.
